Tips to Throw a Kids’ Birthday Party on a Budget

Throw a bash to be remembered with these clever cost-cutting ideas.

As parents, we want to make our little ones happy. Part of this is to celebrate their birthday with a fun and memorable party – after all, they’ll look back on it with fondness. While not all of us have the spare money to go all out on a bash, that doesn’t mean that a fun party is off the list.

Check out these tips on how to throw a kids’ birthday party on a budget!

Time it right. You’ll find that the timing is everything when prepping for a party. Plan your party from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. so that it is after lunch and before dinner. This way your guests don’t expect a full meal.

Start early. If you can, leave enough time to plan ahead. You’ll be able to comparison shop and it’ll save you from running out at the last minute to buy overpriced things you forgot.

Go digital. Instead of sending paper invitations that aren’t kind to your wallet or the environment, send your guests a free electronic invitation.

Double up. If your child’s birthday falls close to one of their friend’s, consider one party to celebrate both birthdays. You and the other child’s parents will split the cost and responsibilities. Just make sure that each child gets their own cake!

DIY favors. Instead of going for overpriced party store favors, make your own! Better yet, add this as an activity during the party so that each child gets to take home their creation. Whether it’s a plain tote that they get to decorate or a party mask, it’s time to get creative!

Homemade cake. Make your own cake to save a couple of hundred dollars on a professional cake. Even if you’re not quite the baker, there are plenty of recipes online that guide you through the process.

Hire supplies. When looking for activity equipment, there’s little need to purchase this equipment. Simply contact Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Conejo Valley to rent clubs and balls that can kick-start your kid’s party!
